Online Dynamic Symmetry Grid Tool

This free online tool lets you generate and export dynamic symmetry grids based on classical composition techniques. I created this tool as part of my own design workflow — to construct precise grids and use them in poster design, layout experiments, and visual studies. I’m sharing it here so other designers, artists, and visual thinkers can explore and apply this powerful system in their own work.

Feature Overview

Width / Height: Set the dimensions of the grid area (in pixels). The grid updates automatically when these values change.
Draw Grid: Manually redraw the grid using the specified dimensions. (Not required if you adjust the input fields — updates happen automatically.)
Export to SVG: Export the current grid as a scalable vector file (SVG), ready for use in Adobe Illustrator, Figma, or other design tools.
Toggles: Turn visibility of lines and labels on or off

What is a Dynamic Symmetry Grid?

Dynamic symmetry is a compositional technique based on proportion and diagonal structure. It’s often used in painting, photography, architecture, and graphic design to create balanced, aesthetically pleasing layouts.

Basic Construction: Draw a rectangle / This is your canvas (Width × Height).
Main diagonals: These diagonals cross in the center point.
Key Points S1–S4: Points S1 through S4 form the basis of the so-called reciprocal lines within the grid.

This determines the exact location where a line (drawn from a corner) intersects the diagonal at a right angle.
